JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, August 30, 2022 -/African Media Agency (AMA)/- Project Management Institute (PMI), the world’s leading association for project professionals, today announced the appointment of George Asamani as Chief Executive Officer for sub-Saharan Africa. Asamani succeeds Ashwini Bakshi, who is leaving the company after leading the region during the pandemic.

Asamani, previously Head of Business Development for Africa, is very accomplished and has a proven track record of growth. Together with the team, Asamani succeeded in expanding the impact of PMI in the region through organizational transformation, industry partnerships, and collaboration with institutes of higher education.

Asamani holds a BSc in Physics from Kings College London and an MBA from London Business School. He co-founded and served as an entrepreneur mentor for LBS’ Accel Awards initiative which aims to support start-up entrepreneurs on the continent with grants, mentors and access to markets. He has been a trainer and mentor for the British Council’s Entrepreneurial Africa programs in Sudan, Ghana and the UK. The highlight of his career also includes founding a digital media distribution company.

Upon his appointment, Asamani said he was excited to continue PMI’s work in the high-growth sub-Saharan Africa region as it enters an exciting new phase where industry and individuals embrace new working methods (WoW).

“Project management skills are fundamental to WoW, and I will remain focused on being an enabler and enabling PMI to deliver great value to stakeholders,” he added.
