ioneer believes the agreement represents a major step forward in the construction and development of the Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Bore project.
ioneer Ltd has selected automation company ABB Inc for a major engineering and equipment supply contract for the flagship Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron project in Nevada.
The deal was awarded on a limited notice basis, meaning that the supply of equipment packages is subject to the final investment decision of INR’s Board of Directors.
Under the contract, the ABB team will initiate systems engineering and optimization work for the equipment packages, which include:
- A steam turbine generator;
- Medium and low voltage electrical distribution;
- Plant-scale power management and process automation and instrumentation systems for generation; and
- Acid and lithium processing plants.
Overall, ioneer believes the agreement represents a major step forward in the construction and development of Rhyolite Ridge.
Produce materials responsibly
Addressing the key contract, ioneer Managing Director Bernard Rowe said: “The contract with ABB is another significant supply contract at Rhyolite Ridge and represents a further step in the development of the project.
“Like other suppliers with whom we have established partnerships, ABB is focused on providing environmentally friendly technical and technological solutions.
“This aligns with ioneer’s ambition to not only produce the materials needed to develop the electric vehicle and renewable energy supply chain infrastructure in North America, but to do so in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. of the environment through reduced emissions, significantly reduced water consumption and a small surface footprint.”
ioneer owns 100% of the Nevada-based Rhyolite Ridge asset, the only known lithium-boron deposit in North America and one of only two known such deposits in the world.
A Definitive Feasibility Study, completed in 2020, confirmed Rhyolite Ridge as a world-class lithium-boron project that is expected to become a globally significant, long-lived, low-cost lithium-boron source. vital for a sustainable future.
In September 2021, ioneer entered into a 50/50 joint venture agreement with Sibanye Stillwater Ltd to advance the Rhyolite Ridge project.
ioneer will operate the project, which is expected to start in 2024.
