Enrolling in the University of the South Pacific – Pacific Technical and Further Education (USP Pacific TAFE) Certificate IV in Project Management is ideal for increasing knowledge, skills and competence in project work, says Amelia Bola, new graduate of the course.

Amelia, marine greenhouse gas manager at the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, said the course helps students advance their careers.

“As someone familiar with project work, taking the courses was a perfect opportunity to hone and improve that skill set,” she said.

The opportunity to study at Pacific TAFE was made possible by the Fiji Women in Maritime Association (WIMA) through a fully funded USAID Climate Ready scholarship for interested association members.

Despite the challenges of face-to-face learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Amelia and 22 women successfully completed the course virtually.

“Working under pressure is an understatement as my colleagues and I have juggled the change of pace in the workplace, seeing the added family necessities and communicating through limited technological means while trying to meet demanding deadlines and goals. of this certificate,” she said.

“A testament to the character of our all-female cohort who have achieved what we have despite the circumstances and the obstacles this year has thrown at us and that is truly inspiring.”

A total of 100 USP Pacific TAFE short courses have received full accreditation from the Continuing Professional Development Certification Service in the UK.

Pacific TAFE’s Workforce Development and Training Unit offers these short courses. The courses also receive external accreditation from the Fiji Higher Education Commission (FHEC).

Amelia encourages working people to enroll in Certificate IV in Project Management with Pacific TAFE, saying continuing to learn has provided her with a new perspective and skill set that has enabled her to be more productive. .

“I was able to put into practice what I learned theoretically in this project management course. That’s what everyone strives for when they get a qualification – using what you learned in school to add value to your workplace.

“The way the course was designed with its tight deadlines of group assignments and online tests, and in particular learning about group work and management, helped prepare me for the environment similar and dynamic in the field of work.”
